The Regal Lady

Mee was perched on top of our laundry area watching the birds when I thought it was a perfect photo opportunity.

I like this shot, the way the light in the background reduced her to just a silhouette.

Can’t believe how big she’s grown. I love the curve from her nose to her forehead and the proud, erect ears. She looks so proud and elegant here, doesn’t she?

Hmm…The Regal Lady sounds really suitable for this potrait. Yeah, I should call it that. Mona Lisa, eat your heart out ;)

LOL, I can hear the comments already.

“There she goes again, another picture of that cat and the sickeningly hair raising prattling as she waxes poetry about her darling. Has she turned into some kind of cat lady or something?”

Can’t help it, guys. This cat lady is a damn proud mommy :p

New Mom At Work - Update

I couldn’t stand it anymore. I had to know. The need to find out was eating away at me.

I tried to be discreet. I stole surreptitious glances at her as she was putting the goods away, but couldn’t see anything.

Finally I let the curiosity get the better of me.

While she is away, I crept to her desk. My eager hands pried open the box and I feasted my eyes on the merchandise. There, nestled between 2 packs of ice was a tumbler around the size of a cocktail shaker.

Opening its lid, I saw “it”. And it was so…so…so…O-R-D-I-N-A-R-Y?

“It” is breast milk. This is the second day I heard J pumping away at her breasts. She seems to always be at it for quite some time, so other than what breast milk really look like, I also wanna know how much she manage to pump out. Of course, I could always ask her but this is not something you ask someone you’ve only known for 2 days, is it?

Yeah, I know, which universe have I been living in, huh, if I don’t know what breast milk look like, right?

Have I ever mentioned before that this whole concept of babies and motherhood is like totally alien to me? Anyway, I was raised on baby formula. No suckling at my mother’s bosom for me.

But, back to the topic at hand, I was kinda expecting breast milk to look like the ordinary milk that we buy off the shelves. I mean, what was I expecting, huh? Chocolate?

It just looks a little more watery. As for yield, it’s almost a full tumbler.

I didn’t take a picture to share. Geez, give me some credit here, folks. What kind of pervert do you think I am? :p

Tai Mai told me that breast milk really stinks and it leaves a very pungent after taste. Can any kind folks out there please enlighten me on this?

I can always do the verification for myself with J’s milk but even I draw the line somewhere :p

New Mom At Work

I got a new colleague today. J is a new mom, fresh out of confinement. I must say she kept her figure well. She certainly doesn’t look like someone who just had a baby.

Early in the morning, she waltzed into the office with some baggage, most notably, a small cooler box. That piqued my curiosity. She brought some sort of post-natal supplements that needed to be kept cool or something?

Turns out the cooler is for her breast milk. Which begs the question, will BB be making an appearance at the office some time today? She did ask me if there is hot water for sterilization.

I will find out soon enough.

Right around lunch time, she disappeared into the bathroom and pretty soon the sound effects started.

Psst…psst…psst…

J was pumping her breast for milk. She collects her milk each afternoon for the next day’s supply. She was in there for quite some time and I started to wonder how much milk she’s gonna get with all that pumping :D

Anyways, I quickly got hold my galfren who is also a mom over MSN and we chatted a bit about it. Yeah, we sure were nosy and we really shouldn’t be giggling over something that is so natural.

But hey, this is something really new to me. I’ve hardly been around new moms except while visiting friends at the hospital. I don’t really know the “natural” things that they do with their BBs. Watching my other friend J breastfeed her baby was my first time.

We’d better get used to the sounds coming out of the bathroom because that’s gonna keep happening until J weans her BB or she runs out of milk, whichever comes first :p

Being Good To Me - Francis’ Steak

I finally found the time to give myself the treat I’ve promised - Francis’ steak. I’m so good to me (smirk).

Mmmm mmmm look at that! There’s a pineapple ring underneath all that mushroom, BTW.

I’ll say it’s definitely worth the RM22.00 I paid for it. A thicker piece of beef compared to Little Chef and lots of side dishes.

I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish the whole thing because my stomach’s capacity to hold food is not what it used to be. I was wrong. The first bite triggered the most intense hunger I’ve ever felt.

That’s good food :D

Here’s a cross section of the steak. Check out that pink interior and red juices. Francis is one of the few places in town that can get medium rare steak just right. The other one worth mentioning is this little place called Munch along Gottlieb Road but it’s closed down now.

My only complaint with Francis’ food is that they tend to be a little dry. The Cheesy Pork Chop I had the last time I was there was dry too.

Other than that, everything else was superb.

I noticed that Francis kept poking the steak with a fork while he was cooking it, presumably to get it cooked faster. That’s a bad idea because it drains the juices from the steak, hence the dryness.

I learned that tidbit of info from Chef Zam after watching Kan Cheong Kitchen :D When cooking steaks, normally, people just leave it on the pan and don’t bother it until one side is cooked then flipping it to the other side. Pressing it with a spatula will drive all the juices out, leaving you with something with a leathery texture.

I made a new friend that night. She’s absolutely gorgeous with large eyes, a pointed nose and shiny black hair that gleams in the light.

Her name is Pipi and she’s an adorable little Doberman Pincher ;)
