My First Book

Today I can say that I authored a book.  Although the book will not bear my name and will probably be given away as a freebie, it’s still something.

OK, so none of the contents are original and it only took me 2 weeks to copy & paste information to put it together.  That’s what I love about Private Label Rights.  It allows anyone who buys it to edit its contents or claim ownership to it.

So if you think all the eBooks or eReports available online are original work, think again.  In most cases, the only work involved is sifting through all the information available then copy & paste the relevant ones.

As long as the information is presented in an interesting or unique way, some desparate soul looking for that proverbial secret to happiness/wealth/or whatever it is they are lacking, is gonna buy it.

To My Girlfriends

So I finally came clean with my girlfriends about this little indescretion I had committed.  It felt good to finally get it off my chest.  Although I had been sworn to secrecy, I still hate keeping secrets from them.  But I can be sure that whatever I tell them will stay within our circle.

I am reminded of this story I read some time back.  A girl can have all the best things in the world - career, marriage, kids, love, family - but if there is one thing she should always have is girlfriends.

My girlfriends are the most wonderful people in the world.  We may not agree on a lot of things but they allow me to make my mistakes and then help me pick up the pieces.  I wouldn’t be the woman I am today or done half the crazy things I did during my carpe diem moments without them cheering me on.

Best of all, they laugh with me during my more stupid moments so I don’t feel so much of an idiot.

Therefore I will always, ALWAYS put my girlfriends above everything else.

Saturday Night Fever

Two weeks after CF’s hafla comes another dance party to attend, this time at Zero, only this time there is the opportunity to check out other dance genres.

The night started out with a warm up routine.  The difference with CF’s hafla is here we were given the choreography first instead of following the instructors cold turkey.

The rest of the night pretty much followed a pattern.  Each instructor from different genres performed a routine with a few choice students and this is followed by a short choreography with audience participation.

Here’s my conclusion of the different dance genres:

Hip Hop - really fast footwork but what really sets hip hop apart are facial expression and a laid back attitude.  We were banging into each other because we couldn’t catch up or were turning the wrong way.  They did teach us this really cool move where we stretched out our left hand and slightly pushed our weight to the right ala Rain in the shampoo commercial.

Latin Fusion - more of my thing with lots of gelek-geleks involved.  I would love to take up Latin dances in the future, maybe after Conny declares that I have graduated from Belly Dance.

Breakdance - I will never make it as a Breakie.  The youngest Breakie there is only 8 years old.  Again, this is something that requires a laidback attitude to give it an identity.  I had to sit out of the floor work (headstand, etc).  There is only so much one can do when one goes commando ;)

Belly Dance - well, I am a student, so of course I’m in my element here :D

There was a games session where students from the different genres were required to do an impromptu number from a different genre.  Guess what the Breakies get - Belly Dance!  This announcement was met with loud cheers from us belly dancers :D

Unfortunately I am not allowed to post that video on YouTube :(

Party time started after that but after about half an hour into that a lot of people were seen leaving.  It was about 11.30 pm when I left for Round 2 in Momo.

The Wait is Killing Me

It’s just a few minutes before quitting time. Got all my work done for the day and just sitting here waiting.

Oh why oh why is the last few minutes always the longest? Really looking forward to the Saturday Night Fever event tonight. I’ll be wearing my gypsy outfit which I wore to CF’s hafla a few weeks ago. Finally managed to complete the look with silver bangles and hairband (substituted for a scarf because I can’t tie it properly).

Oh goody!!!! Just glanced at the clock and it is officially quitting time :D

Will update on the event hopefully with pictures in the next post.

See ya!!!

What the Heck is a Turducken?

I first came across this word from the Pre-Teena comic strip, so I thought it is some sort of made up thing.  I didn’t know that there actually is such a dish that people cook for Thanksgiving as a substitute for Turkey.

Basically a Turducken is a chicken in a duck in a turkey, hence the name.  It is not something easy to prepare.  I saw a recipe for it and man, unless you have an army of kitchen helpers, this is not something you should attempt.

Preparation for a Turducken starts with deboning all 3 birds, no mean feat here.  Then there is the preparation of 3 different dressings for the birds.  It took me a week just to prepare 1 turkey every Christmas, and that is without Mom dogging my heels and nagging me all the way.

So, if anyone is making Turducken for Christmas this year, please invite me to dinner, ya :D

Ask Me Out In English, Please

"Want to have dinner with me?" the vaguely familiar voice at the other end of the line said in Cantonese.

Huh?!  I wrack my brain trying to put a face to that voice.

"Come out with me on Friday.  Besides, I didn’t get to spend much time with you last weekend since you went off so early."

Oh it’s THAT guy.  Will I have dinner with him?  Err…..I don’t think so.  Aside from the fact that I’m working the next day, there is also the language barrier.

I have known him for a few months now and I have never once heard him speak English.  Conversations have always been in Cantonese and with my TVB level, you can guess what that’s gonna be like.

Besides, I find guys who can’t speak proper English a huge turn off :p

Char Koay Teow Tuesdays

Last night I went to the usual coffee shop in Island Glades to ta pow my lunch for today and was warmly greeted by the guy selling char koay teow.

"The usual?  Just eggs and prawns and no vegetables whatsoever?" he asked.

Looks like I’ve been buying from him often enough for him to remember my requirements.  But then non vegetarians, we are a rare breed.

"Yeah, you remember!" I smiled sweetly at him hoping he’ll throw in some extra prawns for me.

"You come here to ta pow my char koay teow every Tuesday, of course I remember", he said.

Huh!?  Really?  Every Tuesday?  I know I ta pow his char koay teow at least once a week, but every Tuesday?  I don’t keep a record of where I ta pow my food from and when.

So in the end yeah, he did throw in an extra prawn for me or two :)

Same time next week, huh, Uncle?

Unlicensed Driver on the Loose!

Just realized last night that I had been driving around with an expired license for the past week.  Don’t know what is was that suddenly made me think about it.  Good thing too or I’ll be an unlicensed driver indefinitely!

So I had to sacrifice my lunch time shower to go renew it at the post office.  There was not a lot of people there maybe because it was raining so I didn’t have to wait long.

Being the hoarder that I am I had kept the renewal slips from past years.  I just handed the guy behind the counter the necessaries - my license and what I assumed was the renewal slip for last year - and waited for him to process it. Of course, it was the wrong renewal slip so I checked and handed him another one, this expired in 2006!

"Hah, jaga awak!  Kalau you buat macam ni depan polis mesti kena heret pi balai," he said.

By now I’m starting to panic.  Did I lose the renewal slip from last year?  I quickly dug out the pile from my wallet and search through them, finally finding the right one which I sheepishly handed over to him (blush).

So finally, I can legally race along the roads again, for another year, at least.

Pride & Joy

Lucy

Mommy Dearest couldn’t understand how I can devote a small amount of my time each day to talk to Lucy or how I’ll be so happy to see any new growth.

Next to her gigantic pot that is growing into a dense bush, Lucy is a wee little bitty thing, isn’t she?

I can’t help it….ever since transferring her home, her growth spurt has slowed down considerably, so you can’t blame for constantly checking for new growths.  The fact that Lucy is still alive and growing is in itself an achievement for me.

Therefore if you think that people who talk to their plants ought to have their heads examined, think again.  We’re just proud of our children.

I know I’m darn proud of how beautiful Lucy is ^_^
