New World Park
A lot of people have asked me where I’ve been spending my Friday nights. Well folks, wonder no more. I’ve been hanging out at New World Park. Yeah, that newly constructed place that is supposed to be really happening, well, not really yet as a lot of outlets are still not opened.
I like it because, well, for one thing, all my favorite hawker stalls are conveniently grouped together in their food court.
When my colleagues suggest we go to New World for lunch, it will always be met with joy from the rest of us. Especially if Jie Foo, aka the side order tau keh also offers his kereta sapu for transport
That means we only pay for our main lunch and Jie Foo will cover the other side orders like fruits, rojak, fried oyster, pasembur, ais kacang, lor bak……
Sigh! I miss those days.
One of the treasures I discovered here is Mizi’s Bistro. I like it for it’s laidback casual environment and good, wholesome food that comes in generous portions. Prices are quite reasonable. Nope, this is definitely not one of those expensive, pretentious fine dining places where your food comes in a tiny heap in the middle of an enormous plate and you get charged the earth for it.
If that is what you’re looking for, I suggest The Boulevard a short walk from Mizi’s. I can’t guarantee that the food will be just as good, but I can guarantee that you will be charged the earth to eat there.
This was my dinner the other night - Fish Papilotte (I hope I got the spelling right). It comes neatly wrapped in foil to seal in the juices. The fish is sitting on top of vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, brocoli and carots. It is very soft and juicy. The tomato juices balance out the flavors very well.
Froggy’s Chicken Nelson which I am planning to try out the next time I eat there.
Close up shot of the lovely cheese oozing out from the middle of the chicken. Yummy!!!!!
Our creamy mushroom soup. It is similar to the one from Continental Bakery which is just around the corner except Continental Bakery’s soup is creamier. Their pumpkin soup is not bad either.
After dinner is some relaxing time enjoying the music from Chakora Music at the open stage area. The girl in the middle, Rachel, does a very good impersonation of Shakira. The girl on the right, Jonie, seems to be a newbie member and a little shy which we find kinda cute. She has a strong voice, though. The girl on the left is Julie, always engages the crowd with her sense of humor. The band plays both Chinese and English songs, so for those of you jakuns who think that New World Park only offers Chinese music, think again!
Froggy, being their VIP supporter, of course got singled out during the singalong last weekend. Sheesh!!! I missed out on a video opportunity with "GPS Tech Idol" when Julie caught her to sing "What’s Going On". Instead, just managed to snap this picture.
Note to self: Your phone has video feature. Use it!!!!
Also found this boutique from which I bought a dress. It was not cheap, but hey, it was one of those love at first sight thing, ya know. You just know that it’s meant to be yours, no matter what. I’m saving that dress for a special occassion :p
Old Towne has finally opened its doors and it is definitely better than the one downstairs from my office. Starbucks seem to be dragging its feet on an opening date, though. Other than that, there are also several other dining outlets, including an Idian restaurant, a cybercafe and 2 shops selling shoes and costume jewelry. A flea market is open on Sunday afternoons.
So folks, if you ever find yourself at New World Park on Friday evenings, look me up.

Girl, you know how I am extremely candid with my points. So, I feel the need to share this with you.
Remembering this post of yours, I convinced some friends to head over to Mizi’s for dinner tonight.
Firstly, let me start with the soup. You forgot to mention in your post that the mushroom soup is their specialty. My friend ordered it. It was VERY good! I decided to go for the pumpkin soup (which you described as ‘not bad either’) was HORRIBLE! It’s gotta be the most dilluted and oily pumpkin soup I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even finish it.
For my main course, I recalled your SMS the other night that they serve cannelloni there but you didn’t try it becos of the ‘aliens’. I did and it was not that great. The pasta was burnt at the bottom. Taste-wise was only so-so.
I did a quick round-table at the end of dinner. ALL my friends were not impressed with the food. One of them actually ordered the same fish dish you ordered. I tried it. It’s not bad but not the type that sticks to your taste buds and head.
Ambience and service was good. Food…nothing to shout about. Would I go back? NOPE.
